Today's Patrol and the cake

Today's Patrol disappeared off to check the area and soon sent a progress report on what was happening in Studland.

Yes clearly the new year diet was out the window and a visit to middle beach cafe was just too much to miss.

Thankfully fully fuelled up the chaps continued and checked the access routes around Studland.

Always watching

A trip to the beach today soon saw an incident developing .

To the many walkers on the beach, the sailing dinghy was going well and the windsurfer just kept falling in, to the Station Officer something was wrong.

Having watched this for a little while, the windsurfer falling in , the sailing dinghy going round and trying to pick the windsurfer it was time to act.

The National Maritime Operations Centre was called and details passed to them what was being seen , did it require the lifeboat ?

Well at that point the sailing dinghy managed to start pulling the windsurfer ashore so the lifeboat wasn't requested.

Meeting the windsurfer ashore he confirmed the board had broken and he was having a problem so was grateful that someone was actually keeping an eye out.

Car Carrying Ship Aground in the Solent

The BBC Website is tonight running a report of a car transporter ship which has run aground on the Brambles Bank at the end of Southampton Water.  It reports the ship is listing at upto 45 degrees and that the Coastguard helicopter and RNLI colleagues are in attendance.

UPDATE: Sunday, 1025am.
By first light the ship could clearly be seen by onlookers on both sides of the Solent, and the local and national media were on scene and will continue to provide updates of the salvage and/or refloat operation.  Utlising a variety of declared assets, this was one of the biggest operations managed to date by our colleagues at the recently opened National Maritime Operations Centre, who confirmed that 25 persons had been removed from the vessel mainly through the use of Rescue 104 and local lifeboats.  A good team effort by all involved.
